“The Imitation Game” is an historical thriller about British mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and pioneering computer scientist Alan Turing, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch.

In 1939, newly created British intelligence agency MI6 recruits Cambridge mathematics alumnus Turing to crack Nazi codes, including Enigma, which cryptanalysts had thought unbreakable.

Turing's team, including Joan Clarke (Keira Knightley), analyze Enigma messages while he builds a machine to decipher them. Turing and team finally succeed and become heroes, but in 1952, the quiet genius encounters disgrace when his countrymen criminally prosecute and imprison Turing for his homosexuality.

Graham Moore's screenplay is based on the biography “Alan Turing: The Enigma,” by Andrew Hodges.

The film, and its cast and crew, were honored by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest LGBT civil rights advocacy group and political lobbying organization in the U.S.
