A spiritual consultant in Boothbay Harbor

For anyone interested in a little palm or tarot reading, there is a woman in Boothbay Harbor with a natural born talent for seeing into people's deepest psyches.

Eva Adams was running her business last summer at a different location, and she said the place she's in now, next to Red Cup Coffeehouse on Commercial Street, is a much better one. There is a deep blue curtain at the rear of the space that Adams takes clients behind for privacy.

She has been practicing her craft for over 35 years. Originally from Ojai, California, Adams said she has known she had the ability to feel “vibrations” from people since she was very young.

“I didn't go to school for this,” she said. “This is a natural born gift that I've had since I was three. My clients tell me that I have an accuracy level of 99 to 100 percent. They really seem to like it.”

Adams is running a $10 special right now. “For the $10 reading, I let people choose two topics for me to get into, and then after those you can choose to go on from there.”

According to Adams, all of her readings are different, so there is no set time for one. “Each reading is individual and I don't like to place a time limit on them. I go by what the client wants. I'm getting some really nice people coming in, and so far it's been a beautiful summer, not necessarily weather-wise, but the people have been great.”

A palm reading is $25; a tarot (cards) reading is $45, and a psychic reading is $50.

Adams defines a psychic reading as her spiritual vibrations picking up on the client's. “I talk about whatever comes to me, whatever I see, and whatever I feel.

“I cannot predict someone's death, but if I see something bad coming their way, I'm going to tell them, to warn them. If I can stop someone from having a horrifying accident or making a bad life decision, yes, 100 percent, I'm going to tell them.”

She said that everybody's vibrations are different.

“How I portray my spiritual abilities is sometimes it will come to me like a movie. Sometimes I'll just have a feeling, and sometimes I just know that I know. Everyone is different.”

Adams said she is not a medium.

“Mediums contact the dead. They claim to allow the dead to cross over. It is modern day haunting,” she said with a laugh. She describes herself as a psychic reader or spiritual consultant. “I am also something of a life coach.”

Adams began experiencing feelings that she knew things about people around her when she was three. “I would just start seeing things. My parents thought I was seeing imaginary friends. They didn't think that I perhaps had the gift.”

She said these feelings continued for two years. “I would see things and I would talk about them. It was spirits that I was seeing and talking to. I would tell my mother that things were going to happen to neighbors and people on the street. She just thought I was being a strange child. Now we know my mom had the gift too.”

“By the time I turned five things really started happening. At five I would feel things and predict things in my town more and more — car accidents that were going to happen, how the weather was going to be, things that were going to happen in my neighborhood. It took off from there.”

She said she began giving readings to get some of the feelings she was experiencing out. “It was too much. I would go to the grocery store and I'd feel vibrations. I couldn't go to Disneyland. I couldn't go anywhere because it was too much.”

Adams said she can tell clients about their pasts, presents, future, love, marriage, business, family.

“Many people come in who are afraid, but when they walk out they are calm, cool and amazed. Several non-believers have come here this summer, and by the time we were done with the reading, they totally changed their tune.”

She said there's nothing to be afraid of. “I don't draw my powers from darkness. I choose not to deal with the dark side. I am very different from a lot of people.”

A woman name Liz, from Boston, entered the space for a reading during this reporter’s interview.

“I've had readings before,” she said. “I'm going to have the $10 special.” Liz said she hadn't had a reading for 24 years. “The reason I stopped was that around 24 years ago I saw a psychic who told me things that were going to happen, and they did. It kind of scared me.”

After the reading Liz said it was positive. “I've been unhappy in my job, and she told me I was going to be getting a new job. She also told me that I've been with my present employer for a long time, which was true. I've been thinking about leaving, but don't know what I'll do. She told me it was going to be something that would make me happy. She also told me I was the rock of my family, and that people come to me with their problems, both of which are true. People at work tend to come to me with their personal issues, because I can keep a secret.”
