Southern cooking class in Damariscotta

Sat, 04/04/2015 - 9:30am

Cooking delicious, mouthwatering southern food with soul can be somewhat difficult for some cooks. While for others, cooking food from the soul comes naturally yet southern cooking remains a mystery. If you want to learn how to cook southern food like southern grandmothers used to, then you're in luck. Elijah Curtis, Executive Chef from Hodgdon Green will be bringing his southern wisdom and humor to Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center's kitchen on Monday, April 13 and 27 at 9 a.m.

On April 13, Curtis' students will be learning how to make southern style stuffed haddock and Cajun vegetables. On the 27th Elijah will be taking students back to his southern roots as they prepare old southern style chicken with all of the traditional fixings. You're in the kitchen, not in the seat. Curtis will provide the excitement, the knowledge and the fun inside of the Coastal Community Center's kitchen.

In these hands-on cooking classes, students will learn about the ingredients, the preparation, the tastes and finally everyone will get to sit down and dine. Your southern creations become your early lunch and a time for conversations about all things "southern and cooking."

Participation fee: $15 per class or $20 for both classes if paid on the first class day. To register, call 207-563-1363 by Friday, April 10. Cooking classes will take place at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, which is located at 521 Main Street in Damariscotta. Community members across all generations are welcome. Home schooled students, their teachers and parents are encouraged to register and participate.
