South Bristol bridge stuck open after accident

At approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26 the South Bristol swing bridge was stuck open after a white box truck struck an electrical pole on Route 129 near Rutherford Island.

Reports indicated that when the truck struck the pole it cut out power to the bridge. The pole was in reported need of replacing.

The bridge has failed several times this summer, and is scheduled to be replaced by the Maine DOT in the future.
