Smiles

    Dear Editor:

I was recently fortunate to participate in the “Day Out With Thomas” at the Railway Village on Friday and Saturday, August 15 and 16. On Friday, I drove the tractor for the “Barrel Train” and on Saturday, the tractor for the “Hay Ride.”

The things that struck me the most were the smiles of the children and the smiles of the parents and grandparents while watching, taking pictures and riding. It made my days. The power of a smile is unlimited.

As a local resident, it is easy to forget what a treasure the Railway Village Museum is to our region.

I work at the museum three days a week in the Vintage Auto Exhibit and have many fun and interesting conversations with visitors, fellow employees and volunteers. Our auto exhibit is excellent and I receive many compliments each day on the extent, variety and condition of our collection. Did you know we have Thomas Edison’s wife’s limousine, a car (locally owned) that was in a Disney movie, and a 1957 Lotus race car?

We also have excellent exhibits of local history, such as houses, fire departments, town halls and local East Boothbay Filling Station.

The entire staff of the Village works hard to make sure visitors have a great experience. This is my first year working there and I can assure you that they are very knowledgeable and have great mechanical skills to maintain the collection.

    Come and see us.
