Sinead Miller is following a family tradition

Salutatorian Sinead Miller is going to college to follow a family tradition of someday owning her own business.

Miller is the daughter of Daniel and Eileen Miller of Bremen. Her family owns Ocean Point Marina in East Boothbay and Ocean Point Furniture in Damariscotta. She attends BRHS since her dad travels to East Boothbay nearly every day to run the business.

“I love New England,” Miller said. “Maybe I'll open up a restaurant around here someday.”

Miller said the race for valedictorian and salutatorian was a friendly race within the top five students, and she's excited she made it and happy for Courtney Brewer, who got valedictorian.

“After it was announced in the paper people I hardly knew were coming up and congratulating me,” Miller said.

Miller will be attending Gordon College in the fall to major in business. She is thinking of studying general business, perhaps with a focus on accounting at the Wenham, Massachusetts college. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is the recipient of the Wellesley College Book Award, and has been recognized in honors English, German, and U.S. History classes.

Miller has been on the varsity soccer and track and field teams all four years of BRHS. She was a varsity cheerleader her junior and senior years, and swam with the YMCA Dolphins her freshman and sophomore years. She has been a member of the Student Health Advisory Board and Math Team for all four years, and a member of the Leaders Club her junior and senior year.

She was named varsity soccer's most valuable player her sophomore and junior years, and most improved as a freshman both in varsity track and with the YMCA Dolphins.

Miller has also spent all four years of high school volunteering with the Special Olympics team coached by BRES teacher Toby LeConte.

“Everyone in my family is raised to help with Special Olympics,” Miller said. “It's fun for me to do as well, and I think they teach me more than I teach them.”

During the summer, Miller will continue to work at Lobsterman's Wharf and Ocean Point Furniture. She is also looking forward to her family’s week-long trip to Pennsylvania where she gets to see all 32 of her cousins on her mother's side.

“We see them all,” Miller said. “Mom is one of six children and the only girl.”
