Sierra Club Maine recently informed State Sen. Chris Johnson that it has endorsed his candidacy in Senate District 13. This endorsement was made in appreciation of Johnson's demonstrated commitment to protecting the environment and comes a year after Sierra Club Maine named Johnson the 2013 “Environmental Legislator of the Year.”

“Our endorsement sends a message of Sen. Johnson's strong support for the environment and his proven track record on environmental issues,” said Melissa Walsh Innes, Sierra Club Maine Political Chair. “While some just give lip service to the environment, Chris Johnson’s commitment to protecting our state’s natural resources is genuine and deep.”

“Whether the issue is the elimination of the chemical BPA in baby formula packaging, the restoration of the alewife passage on the St. Croix River, or action to mitigate ocean acidification, we know Chris Johnson will always work hard to protect the environment and our families,” Walsh Innes said.

When asked about this commendation, Johnson said, "I'm pleased to be recognized for acting to protect Maine's environment. It is an essential part of Maine's legacy, and we are the custodians of it for ourselves and future generations.”
