Share your ancestors’ stories at the genealogy roundtable

Tue, 05/29/2018 - 7:45am

The Skidompha Library Genealogy Group invites the public to its June Roundtable event, “Share a Story from your Ancestor’s First Decade in North America.” This topic will be the focus of both Roundtable events this month held on Thursday, June 7, 5-6:30 p.m., and Wednesday, June 20, 12:30-2 p.m. at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta.

Facilitated by staff genealogist, Kathleen Maclachlan, this informal time of sharing will consist of participants briefly telling the group what they’ve learned about the life of an ancestor in their first 10 to 20 years in North America. This could be the story of a name change, involvement in an ethnic, church, or fraternal organization, a musical group, a description of a living situation or workplace, migration within North America as the new immigrant(s) searched for a place to put down roots, or the still-unanswered questions raised by family history research.

In July another pair of Roundtables will take place to accommodate those who are only available in evenings and those who are only able to attend a midday event. The topic for the July Roundtables, Thursday, July 12, 5-6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, July 25, 12:30-2 p.m. will be “Tales from the Kitchen,” a time of sharing recipes, menus, ancestral food and feast traditions, kitchen tools from bygone times, and even sharing savory or sweet samples of family treats. All are welcome to these free gatherings.
