Set For Success donation sites announced

The Boothbay Region Community Resource Council is already preparing for year six of its big back to school event, Set For Success.

On Sunday, August 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. we anticipate the YMCA Field House will welcome upwards of 437 elementary students along with families. Every elementary student will choose a new backpack and every single teacher required school supply all for free. It will be another amazing event with at least 35 event booths to include our free hair salon, Hannaford healthy food court and so much more.

At this time, we are in fundraising mode. Churches will be collecting supplies during Sunday worship on July 16 and donation sites are now set in place for your gifts of school supplies. Please visit First National Bank, Oak Street, Boothbay Harbor, or Camden National Bank, Meadow Mall, or when you’re in the heart of the harbor, drop into Shear Artistry Family Hair Salon. At each site there is a poster and Wish List of top items needed this year.

If you prefer to make a monetary donation, we sincerely appreciate your help as we buy products in bulk at much reduced costs. Checks made payable to BRCRC “memo line…Set For Success.” Mail to: BRCRC, P.O. Box 43, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

The average cost in 2017 to prepare a student with school supplies is $85 based on big box store pricing and the costs increase when tissues, hand sanitizer, ear buds, and scientific calculators are added.

Thank you community…you are the reason all of our children are equipped to be Set For Success when they return to school in September. Our goal is to support education in the lives of students at Boothbay Region Elementary School, Edgecomb Eddy Elementary School and Southport Central School.
