Samaritans surface

    Dear Editor:

In mid-May, I was driving to Wiscasset on Route 27 when I suffered a serious medical problem as a result of a fall one week earlier.

Fortunately, traveling behind me was a woman and her son who recognized my emergency and drove to me after I managed to pull the car safely onto Middle Road. I’m sure I must have blacked out because my singular memory was my fear of hurting others as well as myself. Getting off the road without doing so was a gift for which I am most grateful.

Because of the action of that lady and her son, as well as another nice woman who came to the car and spoke comfortingly to me, the first response team from the Edgecomb Fire Department arrived within minutes, followed by the emergency squad from Wiscasset, both of whom handled the circumstances with competent dispatch.

The trio of Samaritans went out of their way, literally, to help me. I may never know you but I will never forget you.

Thanks as well to friends who retrieved the car from its careless spot and the fire department for offering safe parking until that could be done.

As for the hermit cookies — someone’s kind touch — they were delicious.
