Ruth Nina Farrin, 59, of Boothbay Harbor, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by loved ones on the morning of March 6, 2014, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born February 13, 1955, she was the daughter of Frances (House) Mank of Waldoboro and the late Alva Farrin of South Bristol. Ruth was born in Castine and moved to Boothbay when she was just three weeks old. She attended Boothbay schools and worked for many years in the seafood industry.

“Total Wreck,” as many of her friends called her, will be fondly remembered for her simple take on life. Whether camping, fishing, taking trips to Rangeley or tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, she treasured the experiences she shared with her family and friends.

She was often seen at the annual Fishermen’s Festival anchoring a tug-of-war team or filleting a haddock in record time. Ruth had a passion for the outdoors. Her cookouts were “interesting” to say the least. The food was great, the fire perfect, but a smoke filled neighborhood occasionally resulted in a visit from the fire department! And, if that wasn’t enough, you were always looking over your shoulder as she tried to brighten the moment with a volley of fireworks.

Ruth was predeceased by her father; two stepfathers, Rostron Connors of Boothbay and Edwin Mank of Waldoboro; her brother Jerome “Jerry” Farrin of New Harbor; and her sister-in-law Robin (Smith) Farrin of Boothbay.

She is survived by her mother; two brothers, Patrick Farrin of Boothbay and Bruce Farrin and his wife Judy of Walpole; two sisters, Rebecca (Farrin) Dolloff of Boothbay, and Cindy (Connors) Santheson and her husband Kyle of Waldoboro; her sister-in-law, Lilla (Benner) Farrin of New Harbor; and lifelong friend and caregiver, Lee (Hodgdon) Abbott of Boothbay Harbor; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring.

Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice, 40 Belvedere Road, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences and messages for the family may be mailed to 27 Farrin Drive, Boothbay, ME 04537.
