Route 27 Traffic Study peer review only item on selectmen’s agenda July 28

Wed, 07/27/2016 - 2:00pm

The Boothbay selectmen will discuss an independent review of the proposed Route 27 Redevelopment Plan Thursday night. The board will review engineering firm T.Y. Lin International Group’s study of the Maine Department of Transportation’s Route 27 traffic study during the 7 p.m. meeting in the Boothbay Region YMCA.

T.Y. Lin International is a global, multi-disciplinary engineering firm with an office in Falmouth.

The DOT’s study was compiled by consultant Mark Lenters of GHD Consulting in Wisconsin and presented in March during the first public informational hearing regarding the proposed roundabout project. During the report, Lenters recommended a roundabout as the best method to improve traffic flow and enhance safety around the Boothbay Common.

Roundabout opponents requested an independent study of his work after learning that Boothbay Harbor Country Club owner Paul Coulombe paid for Lenters’ services on behalf of the DOT.

The selectmen paid T.Y. Lin International Group $1,500 to review the DOT’s Route 27 Redevelopment Plan’s findings.
