Rotary talk on how Joint Economic Development Committee focuses on regional growth

Wed, 07/13/2016 - 3:00pm

Economic development is something every Maine town talks about. But the towns across the Boothbay peninsula have joined forces to get beyond talk to promote economic development across our region.

Wendy Wolf, co-chair of the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Joint Economic Development Committee, will speak about the work of this important new regional group, lay out their strategies and priorities, share insights gathered from local private and nonprofit businesses, and update Rotary members on some exciting new initiatives that can kick start economic development in ways that build on our region’s unique assets. She will speak at the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club, Montgomery Road, Thursday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Building on a long history of collaboration in areas vital to both communities, the towns of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor are now working together under a new cooperative agreement to promote economic growth and prosperity in the greater Boothbay peninsula. Approved in July 2015 by both towns, the new Joint Economic Development Committee (JEDC) includes for-profit and nonprofit business leaders, representatives of both towns, the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, and Southport. The focus of the committee is to create an economic development strategy for the region that builds on the unique aspects of the Boothbay peninsula, and to promote economic growth in ways that preserve the quality of life for our residents.

The program is open to those interested in Rotary. The Rotary Clubhouse is located at 66 Montgomery Road, off of Route 96, ¼ mile past Hannaford.
