Rotary Club honors veterans Nov. 12

Sat, 10/03/2015 - 2:00pm

The Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club is once again honoring all veterans at a gala dinner to be held the week of Veterans Day.

Every year since 2006, the club has honored veterans, active duty service personnel and their families with a special dinner and program. This year, the festivities will be held at the Rotary Club’s new Clubhouse, 66 Montgomery Road, Boothbay Harbor, on Thursday, Nov. 12.

All veterans, active duty personnel and their families are invited. The evening starts with cocktails at 6 p.m.; dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The program will include introductions of all veterans before our keynote speaker comes to the microphone. There is no charge, but reservations are essential: Call 207-633-7300 to reserve your place! Dress code is casual; veterans and actives are encouraged to you’re your military uniform or insignia.

Keynoter for the evening will be SSG Bernard Campbell, who will speak about his grandfather’s World War I experiences, his own deployment as part of the UN Peacekeeping force in Bosnia and Kosovo, as well as his current assignment with the Maine State Police.

SSG Bernard Campbell enlisted in the Army in 1992 and saw active duty service until 2000. He was deployed three times: to Guantanamo Bay, as part of a drug trafficking/interdiction mission with the Coast Guard in the Gulf of Mexico; and to Bosnia and Kosovo as part of a greater UN Peacekeeping effort. He joined the Maine State Police in 2000 where he serves on the state tactical team, and he joined the Army Reserves in 2008. He has spent his summers training future officers at West Point with the 3-304th IN (USMA) out of Saco.
