Robert A. Chellis

Robert Almon Chellis, 81, of Old Orchard Beach died March 3, 2014 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Newfield on March 14, 1932, the son of the late Hobart Chellis and Bertha Snowman Chellis. He graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1950.

He spent two years in the U.S. Army, was discharged in 1956 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. In 1960, Bob graduated from the University of Maine, Orono and worked at Sampson’s supermarket in Augusta, and later at the Maine Employment Security Commission, Maine National Bank in Portland and Hannaford, retiring from active employment in 2004.

Bob enjoyed gardening, woodworking, Civil War history and watching the Boston Red Sox. He is considered by his family to be the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, always willing to do anything for his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, first-born son Bobby Chellis, and older sister Dawn Arabas.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha; his four children, Terri Trujillo and her husband John of Turner; Shari Massengill and her husband Glen of Kennedale, Texas, Mark Chellis and his wife Donna of Hampden and Kelly Roussell and her husband Rich of Gorham; sisters, Marcia Foss and Gloria Hunt; grandchildren, Kim Buzzell, Bob Trujillo, Cameron Massengill, Sam Roussell, Simon Roussell, Rose Chellis, Lily Chellis; and great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Buzzell, Mikayla Buzzell, Joey Trujillo and Annie Trujillo.

A memorial service in Boothbay Harbor will be announced this summer.

Robert’s family would like to thank Mercy Hospital, Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, and Dr. Sarah Ketchum and staff for their care and support.
