'The Road to Character' sermon at Congregational Church

Sat, 07/04/2015 - 8:45am

This Sunday, the importance of character will be lifted up during the 10 a.m. Sunday morning worship service at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor.

St. Paul wrote, "Trouble produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope." Character development is also the subject of David Brooks newest book, "The Road to Character." In describing persons with depth of character, Brooks wrote, "Occasionally, even today, you come across certain people who seem to possess an impressive inner cohesion. They are not leading fragmented, scattershot lives. They have achieved inner integration. They are calm, settled, and rooted. They are not blown off course by storms. They don’t crumble in adversity. Their minds are consistent and their hearts are dependable.”

Thoughts from Brooks book will be woven into the sermon preached by the Rev. Dr. Sarah M. Foulger. A discussion of character will take place following worship. Everyone is welcome.
