Richard W. Barlow

Richard Wilfred "Dicky" Barlow, 88, of Swansboro, N.C., died July 14, 2014 at Onslow Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Boothbay Harbor on February 4, 1926, the eldest of nine children born to Richard Luther and Mildred Joyce Barlow.

As a young man, Dicky lived and worked locally, and had a reputation of being quite a character with a remarkable twinkle in his eye. As a young man, He joined the Marine Corps and later transferred to the U.S. Air Force, where he completed his career in service. Upon retirement from the military, he had a second career as a commercial fisherman in North Carolina.

He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Mildred, his wife, Pearl Barlow, and siblings, Raydelle Stover, Jane Campbell, Wendell Barlow, Mickey Barlow, Merton Barlow and Arthur Barlow. Survivors include: his son, Richard of Florida; stepdaughters, Doris Adams of Swansboro and Della Foster of Maggie Valley, N.C; brother, Gerry Barlow and sister, Joyce Durfee, both of Boothbay Harbor. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A service will be held in North Carolina at a later date.
