The Rev. James Mitchell at Wilson Chapel August 3

The Rev. James Bradbury Mitchell will lead the service at the Wilson Chapel on Ocean Point on Sunday, Aug. 3. The service begins at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.

Mitchell resides in Brunswick. He retired as pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Brunswick after serving the congregation for 19 years. Before coming to Maine he was a pastor in Mentor, Ohio, and Laconia, N.H.

A 1969 master’s in divinity graduate from Crane Theological School at Tufts University, Mitchell had been a music educator in the Lexington, Mass., school system for five years. He graduated from Lowell State Teachers College in 1961.

Community projects throughout Mitchell’s career include: starting a community theater, saving an old mill building for renovation as a community arts and crafts center, serving as chaplain to a county hospice program, starting a shelter program for the homeless, and beginning a respite program for caregivers. His current interests include documenting the history of families and local communities, music performance as a member of the Merrymeeting Singers and the Nor’easters Barbershop Chorus, and gardening.

Mitchell and his wife have been married for 46 years and have two grown children.
