Remembering a volunteer

Mon, 04/18/2016 - 8:45am

    Dear Editor:

The Boothbay region lost a dedicated volunteer Sunday, March 27.

Allan Strouss was active member of the Woodchucks, a volunteer group of women and men who deliver firewood at no cost to those in need of heat. Allan was involved in all aspects of this organization whether it be felling a tree, cutting logs into usable lengths, splitting, stacking and when requested, delivering firewood to a home in need. Allan was never judgmental of request or stingy with a load.

"Throw another day's worth on top," he would declare to the other loaders. For those of who were new to cutting wood, Allan would take his time to show us the most efficient techniques and share "best practices" of safe handling of wood and tools. Allan's contributions to the Boothbay region will burn bright and warm for many months to come.

He will greatly be missed by all, especially his fellow Woodchucks.
