    Dear Editor:

Joe Gelarden (Joe's Journal, Oct. 6) quotes Steve Lewis stating that I opposed improvements at Clifford Park. Lewis is misremembering. I privately expressed skepticism about whether his desire to create a regulation, night-lit Little League baseball field was a sound use of taxpayer's money. He seemed to believe that if we build it they will come. The prospects of our shrinking youth population fielding a Little League team seemed to me unlikely. That Boothbay could meet the exacting, expensive Little League regulations and requirements also seemed impossible, another instance of our selectmen being out of touch with reality. That I was skeptical because it would bring traffic close to my home is also incorrect. I live almost three miles away and have an alternate route.

The statement about the costs of the No Roundabout campaign also needs correction: the 12-person committee authorized the expenses Gelarden refers to. The committee and its many supporters are helping cover the costs. The column implies that "change" is a positive value. It is a neutral word. The Committee Against the Roundabout is not against change in principle. For example, it strongly supports beautification and expansion of the Common. It is simply against this roundabout proposal. It would be change for the worse.
