Re: Modern Democrats, and other Tories

    Dear Editor:

Accuracy and facts allow for intelligent debate. Therefore, I write to correct the statements made in Phil Molvar’s letter to the Editor, on July 6. Molvar’s founding argument about the modern “Torie” party in the United Kingdom is 180 degrees out of alignment. His reference to Jefferson may be accurate but in today's political environment in the United Kingdom, the Conservative Party (Tories) would be the equivalent of the Republicans and the policies they support. The Labour Party would be equivalent to the Democrats and the policies they support.

When your founding argument is inaccurate or false, it brings into question all of the following statements.

Living in the most powerful country in the world, you may think that the political situation, policy alignment of parties outside of the United States are not relevant. However, it is only through an accurate understanding of politics and history of countries in the rest of the world that we gain an understanding of the actions and reactions towards America.
