Letter to the Editor

Re: Call for sense and reason

Dear Editor:

I was amazed at Mr. Nehring’s latest letter in which he describes the “acrimony and derision” that his letters have been met with. He describes his previous letters as calling for “informed and sober” discussion. I must have missed that in his letters with all the disrespect they contained. He has spent the last two years tearing down lawful gun owners. He has called us extremists, accused us of sacrificing children “on the altar of gun rights” and compared us to Islamic terrorists. For more than two years, he has not written a single letter to the editor unless, like he says, “someone says something stupid about guns.”

In his letter, Mr. Nehring calls for people to visit two extremely anti-gun websites. Both of these groups hide behind the issue of gun safety but their long-term goal is complete and total gun control. These groups will not stop short of the repeal of the Second Amendment and the confiscation of every lawfully purchased firearm.

Does he even know “how guns are distributed in our neighborhoods”? Does he have any idea of the steps that have to be taken to purchase a gun?

I would suggest that if Mr. Nehring and Mr. Rotondaro want to have a discussion with Linc Sample, then they bring more with them than the same old tactics and made-up data from the “grassroots” groups Mr. Nehring seems to like. He loves to talk about the real issues surrounding violence in our country and that, despite the fact that more legally owned guns exist in America than ever, the murder and other violent crime rates continue to drop. I will warn them though: be careful you don’t bite off more than you can chew.
