Random acts of kindness do happen

    Dear Editor:

I work as a cashier at Hannaford here in town, and this act brought tears to my eyes.

A young lady and her son attempted to check out when her food stamp card failed her; she only had $1.98 left on it for a $150 grocery bill. She requested that I void the order, so I did. She looked at her son and apologized and was ready to walk out the door when another lady said she would pay for them.

The young customer thanked the nice passerby for her kindness and when she asked how she could repay her, she was turned down, saying "just pay it forward."

$150, just pay it forward; there is real kindness in this world.
