Put the BCA's Fourth of July event on your schedule

Everything will be ready for the Boothbay Civic Association's 30th annual Fourth of July celebration on the Boothbay Common.

"Town Manager Dan Bryer assured me that the construction near the Common will not interfere with the celebration," said longtime BCA member and Fourth of July organizer Joan Rittall.

Rittall said Tuesday there have been two changes in the music lineup from last week's announcement. At 10 a.m., the Boothbay Region Community Band will assemble on the Common to play the national anthem and other songs from the gazebo. Arthur Webster will play on the gazebo following the band and play to around 12:30 p.m. He will be followed by Gabe Tonon, who will play until 1:30, Rick Limouge, 1:30-2:30, and Kathi Nordone, 2:30 to 4.

While the music is playing, attendees can shop at the various craft booths, children can participate in the games provided by Desiree Scorcia, and both children and adults can take a turn on the Boothbay Fire Department's dunk tank ... or pay a dollar to dunk someone else.

Meanwhile, if the hunger pains kick in while you're waiting for the noontime chicken barbecue (which includes salads, a cold drink and homemade pie for just $12 — same price as last year), stop by John Bertolet's hot dog stand to pick up a hot dog with potato chips. Estelle Appel will also sell you water and soda at the stand.

"The town has been very cooperative over the years and it takes a community to put this celebration on," said Rittall. "We're hoping for another good turnout and great weather."

Should it rain on July 4, the event will be held Tuesday, July 5, said Rittall.
