A Jefferson man walked away from an early morning rollover on Newcastle’s North Newcastle Road Sunday, authorities said.

Romeo Geroux, 44, was driving northbound in a 2000, four-door Saturn when he lost control of the car and it rolled over, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lt. Rand Maker said. Geroux then walked to a home on Ridge Road, where he later declined an ambulance but agreed to go to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta with sheriff’s officers to be checked out, Maker said.

Maker did not expect Geroux would need to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. No one else was in the car when the accident happened.

Newcastle firefighters and Central Lincoln County Ambulance responded to the accident, Newcastle Fire Chief Clayton Huntley said at the scene while he and fellow members of the department waited for a tow truck to arrive.

The accident, reported shortly after 4 a.m. Oct. 5, remained under investigation by the sheriff’s office. North Newcastle Road was partly covered in leaves and trees’ needles and was wet from the rain overnight; Maker did not know if  road conditions were a factor.

It was not known why Geroux went to the home on Ridge Road in Newcastle after the accident.
