Dear Editor:

I wish to thank Andy Hamblett and the Y for supporting the LiveStrong at the Y program for cancer survivors. It was a totally awesome and inspirational experience for me.

The instructors were great and always encouraged us and made us feel so comfortable. During the 12-week program, I was fortunate to make some wonderful, new friends. Several of us have decided to create a cancer support group called MYPALS which stands for Make Your Promise, Always Live Strong. I have become a member of the Boothbay Region YMCA and will continue to keep my promise to be strong, stay strong and live strong.

I sincerely hope this program will continue and I offer any support that may be needed when the next class begins on Sept. 23. Intake is currently taking place through Tuesday, Sept. 16. Simply call the Y to arrange the mandatory intake meeting. They must have six participants registered to run the program.

Thanks so much for providing such a wonderful program for our community members who have fought or are fighting cancer and want to be strong!
