Phyllis “Nana” Mae Cook, 94, of Livermore Falls, died May 18, 2014 at Rumford Community Home in Rumford.

She was born October 21, 1919 in Livermore Falls, to Linton and Maisey (Nichols) White as the third of 10 children. She attended Livermore Falls High School and was on the 1936 State Champion girls basketball team. She was employed at Norwalk Shoe, and Bass Shoe Company, until she retired in 1977.

Nana loved to “go visiting,” rock hunting and collecting antiques. She truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and was frequently seen with seven or eight of them at a time. She kept the maple syrup in a cupboard that was easily accessible for a youngster to sneak a sip, and she kept close tabs on her family, friends and the Boston Red Sox (her boys). Nana opened her heart and home to anyone in need, often giving up her own bed.

She is survived by her son, Reginald Cook and his wife Sandra of Jay; brothers Linwood White of Orono and Delance White of Jay; sister Velcena Robbins of Saco; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Cook of Jay; her granddaughters, Patti Foss of Wilton, Shari Maxwell of Leeds, Kathy Thompson of Wilton, Teri Poulin of Hartford, and Christine Lapointe of Livermore; and grandsons, Tony True of Wiscasset, Rob Cook of Jay, and Lance True of Casco.

Nana had  21 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary-Ellen True of Wiscasset, and son, Alan (Skeeter) Cook of Jay, sisters Pearl Quirrion, Janice Durgin, Faye Ridley, and brothers Lester, Leon and Reginald White.

The family would like to give special thanks to Sue Ellen and the staff at Rumford Community Home for the sincere care that was given to Nana during her time there.

Visitation will be conducted Friday, May 23 from 4-7 p.m. at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Livermore Falls. A graveside service and interment will be held Saturday, May 24 at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Cemetary, 218 Haines Corner Road, Livermore Falls.
