Pamela George loves her work at ElderCare Network

Pam George began working at ElderCare Network in January of 2001, and after more than 14 years on the job, she still absolutely loves what she does. George presently serves as an administrator for Village Care Home, but began her work as a caregiver for Assisted Living residents at Wiscasset Green.

George found ECN a "good fit" for her. In 2001, with a young son, she found that the ElderCare team and philosophy made it possible for her to take good care of him with flexibility in hours. Eventually she was able to help take care of two ill relatives, through the care and understanding of ECN. These are the workplace qualities that have kept her at ECN for 14 years.

George also cites a great sense of teamwork, as being a prime reason she and others have such longevity at ElderCare Network. The staff is always willing to cover a shift, or find coverage, when something unexpected happens.

In her administrative position, George looks for employees with big hearts, who are kind and caring and can function well and independently in their small village homes. These homes are really like a family home, and have 6-8 persons living at each, along with staff who become as family.

In moving from caregiver to administrator, George’s responsibilities have changed over the years.

“Every day is different, every day is a new day," George said.

There are days she feels she wears nine different hats, but loves every one of them. She makes herself available to managers 24/7, and does everything from deliver supplies, to talking with family members, to interviewing people for staff, or finding a great match for a senior looking to settle into a new phase of life. She is a valued member of the ECN Administration and attends regular meetings.

George looks for staff members with capacity for love and compassion; a person who is supportive and can fit in as a part of the village home family. People generally love working in these smaller facilities, as it is like caring for your parents or grandparents, and many staff, like George, came and stay for a long time.

When asked about her future plans, George said, “I plan to work at ElderCare as long as I am able.”
