Oxbow Brewing Co. & DRA host ‘Trail Tamers’
Oxbow Brewing Company is joining forces with Damariscotta River Association (DRA) to host the first Trail Tamers event of the season. DRA Trail Tamers are a group of volunteers who gather for monthly work parties to accomplish a specific stewardship project on DRA preserves, such as building a bridge or clearing a trail.
The work parties typically take place the third Thursday of each month from March through November. A few additional Saturday work days will be scheduled in order to involve more of the community.
This year DRA Trail Tamers will kick off the season Friday, April 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Oxbow’s farmhouse brewery in Newcastle. The group will be digging trenches as part of an experimental fascine project to control erosion on a slope behind the Tasting Room. DRA looks forward to learning more about this planting method, which may find application on DRA properties.
“The Trail Tamers have been an active group of volunteers for decades, now maintaining more than 35 miles of DRA public trails,” said DRA Executive Director Steven Hufnagel. “They always bring great enthusiasm, no matter what the work project is, and we are truly thankful for the work they do.”
Oxbow will reward the volunteers for their efforts with fresh draft beer and a barbecue afterwards. To sign up for the Trail Tamers kick off work party at Oxbow or to be added to the email notification list for future volunteer projects, please email Jesse at email@example.com or call 207-563-1393.
