Oval roundabout vs rectangular roundabout

Tue, 09/20/2016 - 7:00am

    Dear Editor:

I heartily agree with Ms. Martin's comments that the Helman plan for the Boothbay traffic situation offers some distinct advantages. However, it would seem that the four sharp corners are four spots that could invite rear-end collisions as vehicles slow to approach them.

My question is: Is there enough real estate available to round off the four right-angle corners and, therefore, make the road a safer "oval-about" rather than a potentially hazardous "rectangle about?"
