Letter to the Editor

Outreach Sunday

Thu, 07/31/2014 - 12:00pm

    Dear Editor:

I would like to say thank you to every church in our peninsula that participated in the Back To School Mission Outreach Sunday.

The results of money donations and school supplies were “stunning.” The money that came in is giving me more buying power with Office Depot, Big Al, who donated thousands of school supplies, and Amazon, among others. Scott Larsen from Compass Rose has also donated very generously to this project. There are also countless volunteers who have donated their time to pull the event together.

The response of the churches is what feeds our program. Not only did locals help but folks from away gave impressively. Because of the generosity, all students will be able to receive their school supply needs and backpacks at Set For Success. Our community has stepped up to the plate, and because of their big-heartedness, every student on the peninsula will be able to attend the event on Sunday, Aug. 17. This is not a financial based program — it is for every student!

We’re still seeking some more backpacks. Donations can be left at the Bank of Maine in the Meadow Mall, The First Bank on Oak Street and at Shear Artistry ... all in Boothbay Harbor.

We are blessed to live in such a wonderful community. Thank you to all for making Set For Success a success!
