Olaf W. Johnson

Olaf William Johnson died peacefully on June 9, 2015 with his loving wife, Judith and family friend, Cheri, by his side. He was born to Charles and Mildred (Gross) Johnson on Nov. 22, 1933. At the age of five, he went to live with his foster parents, Fred and Elizabeth Colby.

Olaf graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1954 and immediately joined the Marines’ Crash, Fire and Rescue Crew. After leaving the Marines, Olaf moved back to North Edgecomb to work with his father, Fred Colby, in a sawmill and as a lobsterman. He raised chickens and sold eggs as far away as Massachusetts. Later in life, he worked in shipyards and filling stations until he retired in 1995.

Olaf met Judith through friends while playing cards. They were married in October 1964. He was a very private and quiet man and an avid New York Yankees fan.

He was predeceased by his parents and his foster parents, by his siblings, Bernice, Roy, Ray, Luella, Charles, Arne, Robert and Bernard.

Olaf is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith G. Johnson; his son, Ernest and his wife Kim of Eastport; his son, William and his girlfriend Melissa MacKusick of Boothbay; his grandson, Jason Johnson of Eastport; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 15 at 2 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta.
