Ocean Point Column: Sad and happy news

Mon, 09/29/2014 - 12:00pm

Sadly, funeral services were held Sept. 21 for Judy Dawson, who died Sept. 18. Our heartfelt condolences to her children, Jonathan, Sarah, and Liz, as well as their spouses, Kate, John and Paul, and Judy’s grandchildren, Jane, Al, Owen, Isabel, Henry and Nara and her sister Janice and brothers Bryon and Guy and their spouses.

Judy was such a positive presence at Ocean Point throughout the years, always involved and attending every activity. For many years she volunteered her time and energy to keep the Casino well supplied for all of the activities. She will be missed.

Congratulations to Marilyn and Jack Heise who recently purchased the Cape house on Ocean Point Road just beyond the entrance to the condos. They will be doing some remodeling before their move from Illinois and expect to be in by next spring. They are very excited to be joining the winter population at the Point and then move over to the cottage to enjoy the summer residents and activities.

Currently they are entertaining friends from Illinois, Pam and Steve Spicer and Jan and Dave Gerber, both of whom are first time visitors to Ocean Point. Their plan is to do all things “Maine,” including a trip to Monhegan.

The Point continues to see a fair amount of its residents vacationing. It was great to see Pete and Barb Klein here for a few days enjoying the weather. Kathy and Jack Ford are here and Richard and Eileen Horton have returned. Betsy Pike O’Keefe and her daughter Melissa were here for the weekend.

This past week I had the opportunity to attend a performance at the Carousel Theatre. I saw their production of “Hometown USA,” a ‘40s musical review; what a great performance by these extremely talented individuals. The cast members are music theatre graduates and each has previously performed in several theatre productions. If you have not had the opportunity to attend one of the performances there is still time as their last performance is Sept. 27. You may also want to include it on your to-do list for next summer.

I would like to remind everyone to join the OP email list to stay connected throughout the off season and to read the blog, which features posts from other Ocean Pointers as well as pictures.

    Have a great week.
