Dear Editor:

I want to take a moment to express the appreciation of residents of Edgecomb, living along Route 27 near the small commercial area by Edgecomb Potters, for the installation of a temporary traffic monitoring device.

This traffic monitor has served to remind travelers of the need to maintain vehicular speed as they approach the sharp turn near the intersection of the McKay Road. The device is visible by motorists for several hundred feet prior to the turn and serves to slow traffic in an area where children are often preparing to leave for or return from school. The device also collects information for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office with consideration of speed of the vehicles passing, the time of day and the frequency of excessive speed violations. This information is useful for scheduling future enforcement details in a particular area if the information warrants enforcement actions.

The Lincoln County Deputies work diligently to maintain the safety of local residents and motorists traveling our roadways.
