A note of appreciation

Dear Editor:

On Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8-9, Wiscasset was honored to be the host town for Wings Over Wiscasset.

While this was a wonderful weekend, filled with music, good food, a splendid air show and more, the highlight for me, and indeed for several of my World War II buddies present, was the opportunity to share many of our experiences, to tell others “how it really was” back then.

The program on Saturday included recognition, awards and tributes given to the WWII veterans, as well as those who fought in later conflicts. It was touching; a rare and much appreciated nod of thanks for our service, which, for some of us, goes back 70 years or more.

My special thanks, and certainly those of my buddies, goes to Dennis St. Pierre, who worked day and night to put this event together. He was faced with a daunting schedule of issues; safety, volunteers, sponsors, promotion, vendors, music, WWII planes and their pilots and much more.

But above all, I’m certain that we all thank Dennis for the many considerations and genuine gratitude he expressed to us old warriors who were privileged to attend this great occasion. I sincerely appreciate it.
