Norman F. Blycher

Mr. Norman Frederick Blycher, 81, a resident of Topsham and Southport, died March 6, 2014 at the Brentwood Rehab Center, Yarmouth from complications resulting from an auto injury on January 14, 2014.

He was a native of Bridgeport, Conn., and was the son of the late Frederick and Edith Johnson Blycher. Before moving to Maine he had lived in New Bern, N.C. He attended and graduated from the Bassick High School in Bridgeport, Conn., and then went on to attend and graduate from the University of Bridgeport, receiving a degree in English.

Norman was employed with the federal government in Washington, D.C. as a systems analyst until his retirement in 1993. He taught computer skills at Northern Virginia Community College for several years. He volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and the local elementary schools in New Bern. He was a member of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club, the Southport Yacht Club, the Boothbay Golf Club, the Lincoln County Festival Arts Chorus of Boothbay and a member of St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, Boothbay Harbor. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, sailing and bridge. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann Blycher, Topsham; daughter, Ann Kirsten Blycher, West Newton, Mass.; son, Frederick A. Blycher and his wife Lynn, Leesburg, Va.; granddaughter, Marley Blycher, and grandson, Jake Blycher, both of Leesburg, Va.

A memorial service will be held in Southport at a later date.
