Norman Edward Carlson, 85, died Jan. 19, 2016 at his home in Wiscasset.

Born on March 16, 1930, he was the son of Hugo Carlson and Eleanor Anderson, and was a fraternal twin brother of Frederic C. Carlson.

He attended schools on Newton, Massachusetts until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy. A submariner in the Navy in his youth, his love of the sea stayed with him throughout his life. He loved boating and most especially the waterways of coastal Maine.

When he retired from Boston Edison in 1992, he moved to Edgecomb, where he had summered for most of his adult life. He served for a time on the Edgecomb Planning Board before moving to Wiscasset.

Throughout his years, he developed many enduring friendships. He was a member of the Charles River Masonic Lodge and VFW Post 1526, both of Medway, Massachusetts; and a member of the American Legion Post 54 in Wiscasset, the Down East Yacht Club of Boothbay Harbor and the Wiscasset Yacht Club.

Some of his varied interests included technology, alternative energy, automobiles, alternative medicine, and perhaps most of all, spirited political debate.

He is survived by his two daughters, Janet Nelson and Linda Brucato, and son-in-law, John Brucato, all of Milford, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Taylor and Travis Nelson, Jonathan, Jacob and Gianna Brucato; sister-in-law, Sondra Carlson of Clifton Park, New York; several nephews and a niece; and his former wife, Judith (Richards) Blethen.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at a date to be determined. Private burial will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Maine Veterans’ Homes, 310 Cony Road, Augusta, ME 04330 or Missionary Fund, Damariscotta Church of Jesus Christ, 61 Belvedere Road, Damariscotta, ME 04543.

Arrangements are by Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. Condolences may be made online at www.Daiglefuneralhome.com.
