Letter to the Editor

No local musicians for 250th?

    Dear Editor:

It saddens me to have to write a letter again about musicians in our area.

Why did the organizers have to get musicians from out of the area to entertain during the 250th celebration? I can name at least 10 great musicians living in the town of Boothbay and some great bands as well — and that's not counting those in Boothbay Harbor or Southport.

I was asked to get the musicians set up for the event back in January by Pat Frazer. I told her I would gladly help and she was happy about that. However, about the week before she died in April, she called me and said she was no longer involved with the event and that someone else was taking over. I could tell from her voice she was saddened by this, but she wanted me to continue to be in charge of getting the entertainment.

When I heard of her passing, I was devastated and I decided not to pursue getting the entertainment. Pat did a lot for the town and I felt there should have been a car in the parade recognizing her dedication.

The music set-up for the celebration was a joke. They hired sound guys. Really? Most bands have their own sound equipment and people. I wonder how much money was wasted on that.

Also, to have Route 27 shut down for the parade during lunch hour was a mistake.

All I can say is I hope I'm not on this earth to see another Boothbay anniversary/birthday. If there is, let's hope we have organizers who can run the show correctly.
