Top 10 senior Nicole LaBrecque likes to keep busy.

During her four years of high school, LaBrecque has been on the field hockey, softball, track, and swim teams, along with prom committee and yearbook staff.

She was co-captain of the girl's swim team this year, and was named to the Maine All-Academic Swim Team for 2015.

“It felt good to be busy,” LaBrecque said.

“I didn't really think about it, but you're only in high school once. Make the most of it, you know?”

LaBrecque is also a member of the YMCA Leader's Club.

She also takes contemporary teen dance, which is a mix of hip-hop and jazz, at the YMCA with Y-Arts Dance Director Melissa Nein.

She is planning on continuing her love of dance by joining spirit groups at college in the fall.

LaBrecque is the daughter of Kevin and Mindy LaBrecque of Southport.

She is attending Quinnipiac University and majoring in physical therapy. She is hoping to use her talents in aquatherapy.

“Jen Wolfe (doctor of physical therapy at the YMCA) got me into it,” LaBrecque said. “I like swimming, and it's where I want to focus.”

Before she was a Seahawk, LaBrecque swam with the Dolphins at the YMCA. She currently holds the record for the 1,650 meter (or 1 mile) freestyle and has been invited to the annual YMCA all-star swim meet three years in a row.

LaBrecque has been awarded the MPA Principal's Award, the Williams College Book Award, and the Coach's Award from her year as captain of the Seahawks swim team.

Though she is the only BRHS student attending Quinnipiac University, she hopes to stay in touch with her friends.

“It's just an hour away from Massachusetts and lots are going to college there,” LaBrecque said. “I definitely hope we can get together sometimes. We've been friends for a long time and everyone got closer this year.”
