Nice stay on the island

    Dear Editor:

We just spent two idyllic days at the Inn at Cuckolds Lighthouse for our 44th anniversary. We want to thank everyone who has been involved in restoring this amazing piece of Maine marine history. It is a gift to anyone who is fortunate enough to visit the inn, as well as everyone who gets to see it in all of its new glory. Most of all, though, we want thank Dan and Barb Aube, the volunteer lighthouse keepers, who welcome the guests, provide a warm and inviting atmosphere and prepare great breakfasts and dinners.

These hard-working folks truly make a stay at the inn an even more wonderful experience. Going above and beyond the call seems to be second nature to Barb and Dan. You find yourself wanting to jump in and help, much as you would if you were visiting friends or family. They make the incredibly demanding job look easy as they prepare and serve gourmet dinners, ready the rooms for the next guests, keep the place in good repair and maintain the appeal of this beautifully appointed home. We are in awe of their dedication, especially now that the inn is booked solid through the end of the season. They will finally get a day off in mid-October. I guess that is the norm for those involved in the tourism industry on the Maine coast but the Aubes are in it for love rather than profit.
