News and Notes from The Community Center

Are your hearts fluttering? This is St. Valentine’s Week and we are having our third annual Cookie Walk here at The Community Center. Be sure to join us on Wednesday the 14th for this special event. Our bakers have been hard at work to provide just the right mix of cookies for your selection. We will open at 10 a.m. and stay until 5 p.m. for your shopping pleasure. Wouldn’t your honey love some special cookies for Valentines Day?

In spite of the weather, we went off to the theater last week. We have the routine down pat now — our driver let the participants out at Portland Stage, they went to lunch right next door and were in line for tickets at the appointed hour. The show was interesting and everyone had a wonderful time. Next theater trip will be on March 15. The show is “Red Herring” by Michael Hollinger. The author’s website says about the play: “Three love stories, a murder mystery, and a nuclear espionage plot converge in this noir comedy about marriage and other explosive devices.” Come in and sign up to go on this van trip. Participants pay for their own lunch — transportation and tickets are paid for. Can’t beat that.

On the first and third Tuesday of the month, the Boothbay Writers meet here at 6 p.m. This drop-in group is for any level of writers — those who write journals, articles, short stories, blogs, and novels. This is an opportunity to talk with others who share a love of putting pen to paper — an open forum to encourage people to write. Your level of participation is voluntary. Come, listen, chat … enjoy!

The Genealogy Group continues to meet each Friday evening from 6-9 p.m. We have free access to Ancestry.com so this gives you an opportunity to delve into your family tree in a great way. Why not come in and give it a try.

Don’t forget — if you need the van to pick you up and take you to walk at the Y or if you need more information about our programs, call 633-9876.
