News and Notes from The Community Center

Mon, 03/27/2017 - 4:00pm

Much ado this morning (March 27), with our newly acquired van arriving at the Community Center. It will be permanently in place later this week. In case you are wondering why we bought the van, we envision that we will be making the Community Center more available to those without transportation -- giving rides to and from the Center, schedule permitting. We will also be working with People Helping People and the Alzheimer’s Support Group giving their participants a way to leave the peninsula and go to museums and galleries and for walks on the beach. People Helping People is a senior support network. The Alzheimer’s support group is a partnership with the National Association for Alzheimer’s and they recommend that the group be provided at least one outing per month to help slow down the progression of the disease. We see day trips to educational and recreational places all up and down the coast of Maine. All rides will be free and there will be a Center driver on board. We are pleased to be able to alleviate, in some small way, the shortage of transportation choices for the people of the community. And remember, if you have a day trip that you would like to take, let us know about it and we might be able to take the van.
