New Hope for Women event

    Dear Editor:

As a newcomer to our fine peninsula (since 1996), I was first attracted to the region by its natural beauty, but like many, I’ve stayed here because of the people. We have a unique population who’s generosity and support of local institutions is only matched by their generosity of opinion. One thing we can agree on is that there is no excuse for domestic violence.

Each year I sponsor New Hope For Women (NHFW) in a fundraising event celebrating women leaders who are in position to help this important cause. NHFW is a nonprofit which serves our Lincoln County (among others) with a mission to end domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. Read about their work at www.newhopeforwomen.org

Last year Mrs. LePage, the First Lady of Maine, was our honored guest and the room was full of positive energy and genuine support. Mrs. LePage was fabulous; warm and sincere, and there was little doubt that this was a cause she cares deeply about. Thirty-five lucky people got a chance to meet her and hear her speak. Together the women in the room raised over $5,000 and enjoyed donated wines and food catered by Ports of Italy.

This year’s honored guest is Attorney General (AG) Janet Mills and the event will be held Thursday, June 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. Like Mrs. LePage, AG Mills cares deeply about this issue as reflected by her priorities in office. Mills is an excellent speaker and equally wonderful to engage in dialogue. Since our room format is only 35 people, it is a unique opportunity to do so.

Because of the small size we ask $250 for each ticket ($220 is tax deductible), and we have many options including sponsoring someone in town who otherwise may not be able to afford to come. I urge those of you who can afford to support this cause to either come or sponsor an attendee (we have names of people to sponsor if you are so inclined).

Contact Jamilah Gregory at jamilah@jbg.events or at 603.731.3957 or follow the link at www.29mckown.com to read about the venue, the cause, NHFW and to purchase tickets.

Thank you all for your generosity.
