Story Location:
2 Theater Street

Simply put, “Neither Wolf Nor Dog”is the story of a Lakota elder who summoned a non-native writer, Kent Nerburn, to visit him and help him write a book about his people. Nerburn published his book in 1996. Since its publication, readers have been drawn deeply into the heart of Native American culture and experiences.

After 20 years of Hollywood trying to make the novel into a film, Steven Lewis Simpson has succeeded. We have a film experience that shows the beauty, tragedy, humor and power of Lakota Country and has been highly acclaimed by critics and viewers, natives and non-natives alike.   Every American must see this timely film.

The film is brought to Damariscotta, thanks to the Lincoln Theater and a local group of friends who are exploring and studying Wabanaki culture and history and the impacts of white supremacy and colonization on indigenous peoples in Maine and elsewhere. The group also was instrumental in pulling together the coalition of sponsors who hosted Sherri Mitchell’s speaking engagement at the Lincoln Theater on April 24, and will be organizing other community events to raise awareness of indigenous rights issues.

The film,  will be screened on Thursday, May 3, at 7 p.m at the Lincoln Theater, 2 Theater St., Damariscotta. Tickets are $8 at the door, $6/ Theater members and youth 18 and under. The concession stand will be open.
