Mon, 12/07/2015 - 12:15pm

Nathan Chalaby of Portland and Boothbay died suddenly on December 2, 2015 at the age of 47.

Nate was born in Hartford, Conn., the son of Sarkis Chalaby and Minerva (Townsend) Chalaby. Nate grew up in Boothbay where he excelled in sports and music. He graduated from Boothbay Region High School in 1986.

Nate worked in several Boothbay Harbor restaurants as well as many winters at restaurants in Colorado and Florida before moving to Portland in 1996.

Nate was a talented chef and could be found most evenings creating his signature dishes in the exhibition kitchen at Joe's Boathouse in South Portland where he worked for the past 19 years. He was beloved by his "Boathouse Family" and his generous spirit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

Nate attended Boothbay Baptist Church as a child but more recently had started attending Eastpoint Church in Portland where he was baptized in September.

He is survived by his mother, Minerva Chalaby; his father, Sarkis Chalaby; and his brother, Daniel Chalaby.

A service will be held at Boothbay Baptist Church in Boothbay on Thursday, December 10 at 2 p.m.

Hall’s of Boothbay has care of the arrangements. To extend online condolences, light a candle for Nate, or to share a story or pictures, visit his Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com.
