Nancy May (Robinson) Nordin, 80, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 14, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on October 28, 1932 in Boothbay Harbor to Henry and Florence Robinson, the youngest of nine children. Growing up in the harbor she attended local schools until moving to Rhode Island with her family at the age of 12.

After she finished her education, she went on to start her family. A stay-at-home mom raising her four children, she did not enter the workforce until her older children were grown. Her love of children made for a seamless transition into a career as a nanny, a career where she would work for many families throughout Rhode Island who loved her immensely. In her 40’s she began training to become a CNA a position that again allowed her to continue in helping people something she truly had a gift for.

Eight years ago she came back to Boothbay Harbor and, making her home at Bay Landing, she became the third generation of Robinsons to live in the harbor. It was here that she made quick friends with her neighbors and would enjoy a nice glass of wine and the daily gossip. Even though she was no longer working full time, she still found time to help out her neighbors. She would help with the cleaning, help them get to appointments, and anything else that someone needed. This character trait shown through until the very end as she was always asking others if there was anything that she could do for them.

A lover of music, listening to George Strait, and dancing were some of her favorite activities. A wiz in the kitchen she will be remembered for her scalloped potatoes, spinach pies, whoopee pies and a Thanksgiving dinner that no one could forget. Always trying to stay active she would walk as often as she could even having a membership at the YMCA for a little time. Her sense of humor was contagious and she found ways to laugh until the very end. When presented the opportunity to get dolled up she would not pass it up always making sure to dress to the nines. A bowl of ice cream was something that she could not pass up making sure to have at least one a day.

Her family meant the world to her and she loved them all equally, from her children to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Any moment spent with the children was one she cherished and she was a great grammie. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all that knew her.

She was predeceased by her eight siblings, David, George “Pop”, Myron, Fredrick, John, Mayberry, Donna, and Faunie.

Survivors include her four children, Neal Barter of New Hampshire, Timothy Hathaway of Woonsocket, R.I., Patricia Rubel and her husband Tom of Boothbay Harbor, Nancy Gordon and her husband Michael of Cumberland, R.I.; grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, Amy, Evan, Emily, Coreena, John, Soncheri, Nathan and Kristin; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
