Mt. View, Lincoln win junior high tournaments

Mt. View came out of the losers’ bracket to win the 39th annual Boothbay Region Classic boys basketball tournament held at the YMCA, and the Lincoln girls team from Damariscotta went undefeated to win the 44th annual Rotary International tournament, with games held at Boothbay Region Elementary School and the YMCA. Both junior high tournaments featuring eight teams each were held Friday through Sunday.

Mt. View defeated Lisbon in the single-elimination championship game, overcoming an earlier loss in the tournament to Lisbon. Mt. View got to the title game by defeating third-place Norridgewock.

Lincoln cruised through the tournament, defeating runner-up Rockland in the final. Lincoln’s other wins were over Rockland, St. George and Medomak. Cony came in third in the tournament.

The Boothbay boys team went 1-2, getting an opening round win over Lincoln, then losing to Mt. View and the LA Eagles. The Boothbay girls team won its first game over Camden-Rockport, then lost to the Rockland Tidal Wave and Medomak.

The Boothbay duo of Jaelyn Crocker and Mara Gentry took third place in the girls’ Hot Shot contest.

The boys 2018 tournament all-star team included: Kaeden Ames, Boothbay; Miles Watts and Jack Duncan, LA Eagles; Nick Blair and Mason Booker, Lisbon; Draedyn Furrow, Declan Knowlton and Hannah Coolen, Mt. View; Collin LePage and Levi Obert, Norridgewock; and Andrew Poulin and Jason Reynolds, Winslow. Draedyn Furrow of Mt. View was the tournament’s most valuable player and the team sportsmanship trophy was presented to the LA Eagles.

The girls 2018 tournament all-start team included: Mattie Luce, Belfast; Jaelyn Crocker, Boothbay; Ella Graffam, Camden-Rockport; Grace Kirk and Sierra Prebit, Cony; Olivia Stiles, Grace Houghton and Payson Kaler, Lincoln; Autumn Ripley, Medomak; Audrey Mackie and Bella Stasulis, Rockland; and Audrey Leavitt, St. George. Audrey Mackie of Rockland was the tournament’s most valuable player and the team sportsmanship trophy was presented to Camden-Rockport.
