Dear Editor:

I hope that President Trump is smart enough to realize that another state-sanctioned war on drugs, like every one before it, will only result in the incarceration of more ordinary people for vices that are not crimes. Too many past politicians have been far too comfortable using essentially totalitarian measures, and the money of others, waging “wars” on human nature itself, as long as it was not their ox being gored.

So, let’s stop falsely claiming that a border wall would be unjust to immigrants who are not immigrants at all, and begin doing the one thing that could reduce the amount of illicit drugs getting into the hands of young Americans who are our friends and family, and who were once so full of promise.
