More bad choices by Sen. Collins

Mon, 02/20/2017 - 3:30pm

    Dear Editor:

Senator Collins, in the wee hours of the morning on Monday, Feb. 13, voted to confirm Tom Price for Secretary of Health and Human services, a senator who: voted numerous times to take away health care from over 74,000 Mainers who have signed up for the ACA; who voted to defund Planned Parenthood where many Mainers both men and women receive primary care services; and who wants to privatize medicare, which would negatively affect the elderly, making health care less accessible. Not a good deal for the oldest state in the nation

She then voted to confirm Steven Mnuchin to head the Department of the Treasury, an agency that had reprimanded his bank for mishandling foreclosures by breaking California foreclosure laws in the height of the financial crisis. Mr. Mnuchin profited from predatory lending, using false documents in ruthless foreclosure, robo-signing, throwing thousands out of their homes. Mnuchin wants to dismantle regulations that protect the public by limiting banks ability to gamble with federally insured deposits, a practice that helped to cause the financial crisis that nearly led to a caused a serious financial depression in 2008,

Both of these men will make policy and set the agenda men so it is imperative that you be informed because your health care and finances depend upon it.
