The Boothbay Region High School varsity girls soccer team learned Tuesday what all of Monmouth Academy’s previous three opponents already knew: The Mustangs are good ... really good.

Monmouth defeated Boothbay Region 7-0 on Sept. 16. This was the Seahawks’ fourth straight loss to start the season.

The Mustangs only allowed four goals in four games. Monmouth also scored 10 times in victory against Mt. Abram.

Despite the lopsided score, Boothbay Region found themselves locked in a tight battle midway into the second half. The Mustangs scored an early first half goal, and clung to the one goal margin at the 60-minute mark. But the Mustangs showed why they are one of the region’s top teams by scoring the game’s final six goals.

Monmouth (4-0) is one of four undefeated teams in Western Maine Class C girls’ soccer. The Mustangs are in third place in the Heal point standings.

The Seahawks are one of four teams in Western Maine Class C girls’ soccer without a win or a tie. Boothbay lost its other game of the week on Sept. 13 to Lisbon, another undefeated team. The Greyhounds (4-0) are ranked in sixth place.

The Seahawks will play next on Thursday, Sept. 18 at Mount Abram in Salem Township. Mount Abram (2-3) is in 13th place. Boothbay Region is tied with three other teams for 16th place.
